Academic Appeals

Any decision can be questioned, properly.

The University resolves complaints and appeals through a structured, impartial procedure with defined timelines at every stage. Any current student, graduate, credential holder, or member of the public with a legitimate interest may file.

Categories of Appeal

Three doors, one standard of review.

Every submission is reviewed with equal diligence, whichever category it enters under.

Academic Appeals

Challenge academic decisions related to coursework, assessments, or programme requirements.

  • —Grade disputes and assessment score challenges
  • —Request for re-evaluation of examination results
  • —Programme requirement exceptions or accommodations
  • —Extenuating circumstances affecting academic performance

Conduct Appeals

Appeal disciplinary decisions issued under the Code of Ethics or institutional conduct policies.

  • —Appeal of academic probation or warning
  • —Challenge to suspension or credential action
  • —Dispute of an ethics violation finding
  • —Request for reconsideration of sanctions

General Complaints

Concerns about University services, processes, or the conduct of faculty and staff.

  • —Service quality or accessibility concerns
  • —Faculty or staff conduct issues
  • —Platform or technology access problems
  • —Billing or enrollment disputes

The Procedure

Five stages, each with a clock on it.

  1. I.

    Submit the appeal

Send the formal appeal in writing to the Office of the Registrar with all supporting documentation, stating the decision being challenged and the grounds for the appeal.

Within 30 calendar days of the original decision · Office of the Registrar

  2. II.

    Initial review

The Registrar reviews the submission for completeness, eligibility and categorisation. Written acknowledgment and a case reference number follow.

5 business days · Office of the Registrar

  3. III.

    Formal hearing, where warranted

If the initial review finds grounds, the Academic Council convenes a panel to review the evidence, hear the relevant parties, and deliberate.

15 business days from initial review · Academic Council

  4. IV.

    Panel decision and notification

The panel renders a written decision with reasons and any remedies or corrective actions. Both parties receive the decision simultaneously.

10 business days from the hearing · Academic Council

  5. V.

    Final appeal, if pursued

A final appeal may be submitted to the Office of the President. Its decision is binding and concludes the procedure.

15 business days · final and binding · Office of the President

Grounds & Rights

What an appeal may rest on, and what every appellant is owed.

Grounds for appeal

  1. 1.Procedural irregularity in the original decision-making process
  2. 2.New evidence not available at the time of the original decision
  3. 3.Extenuating circumstances not previously considered or disclosed
  4. 4.Bias, conflict of interest, or prejudice in the original process
  5. 5.Disproportionate sanction relative to the infraction
  6. 6.Factual error in the findings underlying the decision

Appellant rights

  • —A fair, impartial and timely review of the appeal
  • —Submission of supporting evidence and documentation
  • —Written reasons for all decisions at each stage
  • —Representation or support by an advisor of choice
  • —Confidentiality throughout the appeals process
  • —Freedom from retaliation for filing an appeal in good faith
